anhydrous sodium carbonate Na2CO3 is used as primary standard but not the decayhydrate,Na2CO3.10H2O.WHY?
sodium hydroxide NaOH is not used as a standard solution at all.can anyone suggest the reasons for this?
Sodium carbonate decahydrate is deliquescent. That means that it will spontaneously lose some of its waters of hydration to the atmosphere. This would give it a weight which is not constant but is continuously changing.
Sodium hydroxide will absorb water vapor and carbon dioxide spontaneously from the atmosphere giving it a non-constant weight and chemical composition.
